23 Jan It’s all about the bass
It was 1992 when Sir Mix A Lot spoke out first when he announced that he liked big butts and that was no lie. It came as a refreshing change considering the “skinny-obsession” in early 90’s. Fast forward to today when every other song on the radio has at least some reference to the female behind. It’s become very in to have a larger derriere to the extent that a ‘booty complex’ is starting to emerge and women are seeking butt implants more and more. They actually sell a contraption similar to a push up bra for the booty, it lifts the booty up without the need of padded underwear, silicon inserts, or booty enhancing pants.
Padded underwear?? What?? Oh how times have changed. I’m all about working to get your butt toned and firm but I think we need to work with what we’ve got.
Genetics do come in to play in terms of the the size and shape of your butt, there are ways to help add size and muscle mass to your gluteus maximus but it’s probably not going to give you a giant round butt. Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce or Kim Kardashian most certainly had genetics on their sides when it comes to their booties. And remember Photoshop people!! You know they have to have some cellulite in there…they must…
I personally never wanted to make my butt bigger, if anything I was usually trying to make my butt appear smaller. I don’t really have a big or small butt, just average I guess, I do find it strange to read headings like “How to get a bigger butt naturally”. My goals for my bum in recent years have been for it to sit a little higher, be firmer, stronger and of course less cellulite.
If this is something you want to work at then try leg exercises such as the deadlift, squat, lunges, variations on lunging; the skater lunge, reverse lunge, or step lunge. Squats is a move that will help to lift, firm, and strengthen your buns, be sure to focus on good form. For a bodyweight squat hips should go backwards as your knees begin to bend. Try to start with your hips back, and not by bending your knees, sit back into an imaginary chair; squeeze through your glutes as you return to standing. The gluteus maximus (your butt!) is the strongest and biggest muscle of the body. Your glutes are actually three muscles: the gluteus medius, maximus, and minimus. It is most of the mass that are your buttocks.
If you want that Nicki Minaj butt hopefully you have been blessed with good genes in that part of your body and you can work with it.
If you just want to firm it up, as with most body sculpting goals, remember your diet, cardio and weight training are all part of the equation.
