05 Jan Don’t Resolve…Evolve
The holiday season has come and gone once again, I hope you enjoyed time with family and friends. I was lucky enough to spend the last week or so at a party here, a dinner there and family get togethers that served lots of not so healthy food and drink. It was a good time, I indulged some but I rang in the New Year and now it’s back to business!!
Welcome 2015!!! It’s no big surprise that losing weight topped the charts as the No. 1 New Year’s resolution in 2014, and this year will likely the same.
We all want to start off a new calendar year with our best foot forward. Bettering ourselves by improving our health and fitness is a goal we all want to achieve.
Are you feeling like you would like to commit to eating better, exercising more, or any other positive lifestyle changes you want to make? Are you thinking of making this a New Year’s resolution? Maybe we should think of it as an evolution and not a resolution.
Definition of resolution: To resolve – To resolve a problem/or find a solution
Definition of evolution: To Evolve – To develop, a system gradually changing over time.
We already know the solution to being more healthy and fit; we need to eat better and exercise more. The hardest part is making the changes in our lives to do so and continue to do so.
Lifestyle changes are a process that take time and support. Once you’re ready to make a change, the difficult part is committing and seeing it through.
Make a plan that will prepare you to succeed.
Set small goals and taking things one step at a time. Acknowledge every goal achieved.
Try measuring your success by how good you feel, rather than just by how much you weigh.
Speak positively and think positively. There’s no room for undervaluing oneself.
Be patient! Hard but true. We are so used to instant gratification that waiting for anything especially the scale to move is difficult. You’re not going to get results overnight.
Staying active is better than nothing, so even before you start seeing results know that you are already taking the steps to achieving good health. The pay off will come and it will be more than just inches and pounds lost.
Don’t give up if you get off track. One reason many people fail in their resolutions? Not realizing that life will get in the way, take it day by day and don’t let a missed workout throw you off.
Life happens and your fitness goals will still be there. Forget it, move on and get back to reaching and maintaining your goals.
One of the main reasons people don’t keep to their fitness goals is because they don’t give the goal enough value. If you value something as a priority, then you will give it the attention and time you need to achieve it. Without your health you don’t have much so I can’t think of a bigger priority. Happy New Year!!! Much Health and Happiness!!!
