23 Oct Being a hands-on grandmother
I love being a hands-on grandmother! It’s especially easy when you have daughters-in-law who welcome your involvement.
Since my grandkids were babies, I’ve managed to maintain my own career, run to the gym, play golf, have lunch with my friends, and travel with my hubby.
BUT-I always find time for those “kids” of mine! Any quick fix I can get, I grab! A carpool, an hour or two of babysitting at night, or between 4:00 and bedtime when Mom needs it most! Even a weekend here or there to give Mom and Dad some alone time!
Best of all are the “one on one” times I try to get which can really be special for both myself and whichever grandkid I happen to get! A movie, a shopping day at the mall, lunch together in Pointe Claire Village, a sleepover at my place. This week I start all over again with my little guy Miles- play group Wednesday mornings. How fun is that! Any way to bond with them.
Now Sydney and Aidan have gone into high school and Sky is in grade 5! What responsible young adults I’m seeing, and how busy they’ve become! Between activities, friends and homework, our time together is much more limited (as it should be!). I’m sad for me, but happy for them. But I know we’ve developed that “special” feeling for each other that will never diminish.
They’ll always know Grams is there waiting in the wings, ready to welcome them with open arms whenever they have even one minute extra to spare. Always with my unconditional love and affection. xoxo
