23 Apr A little rant about sports bras
Anyone who knows me knows how much I dislike going to the dentist. Well, going shopping for bras, especially sports bras, is a not so distant second.
Usually after spending a few hours and a lot of money on one or two bras that I think are going to be the bra of all sports bras, I am always disappointed. Bouncing up and down in the dressing room for 4 seconds is just never a good enough test (I know you’ve done this too) as actually running, stepping or skipping. Somehow from the store to home my boobs seem to have either grown or shrunk and I am no longer staying in the cup!!!
Even the technical names for the different types of sports bras are unappealing. There is the Encapsulation style sports bra. They typically use underwire to separate the breasts, encapsulating them in the cup, so that each breast gets an individualized level of control and support. Or the Compression sports bras, which work by pressing breast tissue firmly against your chest and holding it in place as you move.
Sounds like fun…encapsulation and compression.
You’d be surprised how often the topic of sports bras comes up in my little home gym. I’d say almost DAILY!!! Surrounded by mirrors in a not so huge space, usually my clients are alone or possibly in a small group of 3 or 4 women. Jumping, running on the spot or leaning forward to perform an exercise you can’t help but notice what “the girls” are up to. Women often chat amongst each other always in search of the one… THE PERFECT SPORTS BRA!!!
What is the perfect sports bra?? Here are a few of my needs…
- Doesn’t give me the commonly seen uniboob !!
- Doesn’t flatten my breasts completely
- Doesn’t need an instruction manual to put on
- Can be removed even when sweaty without assistance!!
- Low nipple visibility…Hides the nipple-itis (yup it happens to most of us, when your adrenaline is pumping from physical activity)
- Is somewhat comfortable, doesn’t feel like armour.
It would be nice if it didn’t cost a fortune but if it does meet credentials 1 through 6 then I will pay !!!!!
Now based on my bra criteria you would think that I am a big busted woman. I am an average 34C and I feel the need for support but I know my bigger breasted friends struggle more than me.
I had found what I thought to be the Perfect Sports Bra, but the company stopped producing their athletic line!!! I was crushed…. it’s been a few years now and I’m still searching…… so if you have a favourite please share it, I could use some guidance before I actually hit the stores.
