14 Jul My Very Own Renovation
So this is going to be a summer long blog series and will probably end up being a bit of a diary … you have been pre-warned!
My husband and I have officially bought our first house, and it is the definition of a “fixer-upper!”
The idea of getting to turn this house into my dream home is extremely exciting, but super overwhelming.
The thing is, you might think that as a designer I would know exactly what I want the house to look like … WRONG!!!
My issue is that because I am a designer, I like almost every style and can see them all looking great in the house. So deciding which style to go with is proving to be quite difficult.
I have officially decided to do what I always tell me clients to do: find an inspiration piece.
I went to Homesense and found a pillow that spoke to me. It is warm and cozy, and gives off the “feel” that I would want for my home. I absolutely love it, and will hopefully not change my mind too many times before any work actually begins.
We take possession in August, so now is actually the best time to get ready!
I find that the biggest mistake people make is waiting until they take possession of the house to start doing any of the work. By starting now, I can do my best to make sure that everything is lined up and ready to go on start day, making our actual construction timeline shorter.
My two main goals is to have the flooring chosen and ordered, remember that any wood flooring needs to sit in the home for at least a week before install in order to acclimate to the humidity levels in the home. I also plan to have the kitchen ordered, as it takes 6-8 weeks to manufacture. Hopefully by getting these main items accomplished before we take possession of the house, we will be able to shorten our construction timeline due to not having to wait for anything to come in.
Hopefully by next month’s blog I will have a lot more accomplished to share with you … Wish me luck!!!!!
