Single All The Way! 5 Ways to Combat Holiday Blues

’Tis the season to love… yourself! The Holiday blues gets to the best of us. But I am here to remind you that there is no better time to indulge, both selflessly and selfishly, than during the Holidays. Singles can (and should!) revel in the fact that they are bound to no one but themselves because, I promise you, it’s not going to last forever. So, what can you do this season to combat a case of the Holiday blues?

1. Give away your time

Have you heard of the saying “If you’re not happy, try making someone else happy.”? Selfless acts of kindness benefit everyone. Doing a good deed will leave those you are doing them for appreciative and grateful which in turn will make you feel on top of the world. Devote your time freely to an organization or someone in need.

2. Host a party for someone deserving

The holidays are about giving and togetherness and there are unique ways of combining the two, like the fun of hosting a party while doing something nice for someone else. Plan a gathering for someone in your life who really deserves it. Whether you keep it close and intimate or decide to go all out, it’s a great way to show your appreciation for them. Tip: Go with a special theme that represents your guest of honour.

3. Invest in a smarter you

While you relax and enjoy your downtime this Holiday season, making time for some personal development is going to make you feel really good. Learn the basics of a new skill, read something educational, watch documentaries or take an online course (check out www.edx.org for free courses offered by some of the best universities around the world). There is nothing more important than investing in yourself, it will bring confidence and may lead to something unexpected in the new year.

4. Plan a post-Holiday holiday

With a jam-packed calendar during the holidays, things can seem a bit quiet come January. So, why not have something to look forward to in the new year? Planning a little trip, even if it’s a simple weekend get-away, is something to get excited about once all the Holiday commotion comes to an end. Bonus points for doing it solo!

5. Do something selfish

To counter balance all your good behaviour, don’t neglect the opportunity to self-indulge. Buy it, book it, eat it or drink it, whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that puts a gigantic smile on your face.

Happy Holidays!!
